R-ENSEMBLE

The R-ENSEMBLE project seeks to re-ensemble industrial and public facilities on the Sunset Park waterfront in a coherent way to fit in with the new type of industrial activity in the area. The project is developed at an urban as well as an architectural scale. Its aim is to empower local workers in the neighborhood to find employment in the industrial waterfront clusters and encourage and strengthen a walk-to-work relationship for them between their homes and workplace.
The public's interaction with the waterfront is improved by introducing new transport approaches at a metropolitan scale, and creating "shared streets" to bridge the inner neighborhood activity with the waterfront activity at a local scale.
INDUSTRIAL MASTER PLAN INTERVENTIONS
The project proposes a cluster of industrial buildings which serve to make the area more competitive for the needs of the modern industry. The proposed cluster complex accommodates the following industry subsectors: light manufacturing (production areas, warehouse storage, loading docks) and creative industries (offices, studios).
A public plaza serves as a transition between the new Bush Terminal Park and the industrial cluster. These public spaces would be shared betweem industry workers and neighborhood residents who can use them at different timesof the day and benefit from the proximity of the neighborhood to waterfront recreation facilities.
Half of Brooklyn's workforce have their daily commute within their home borough and for many of those residents the fastest and best way to get to their workplace is by using public transport, walking, or cycling. The R-ensemble project takes into consideration existing commuter travel patterns and proposes additional connections from residential areas to the working waterfront.
