TO SETTLE
A contemporary art gallery at the heart of the community in Glasgow's East End, the historic center of the city, which now faces extensive efforts for reinvigoration. Besides the practical client requirements, the gallery takes under consideration the needs of a particular artist in residence: sufficient exhibition spaces and a studio-type living space. The project aims to comply with the three pillars of sustainability: social, economical and environmental. A challenge was presented by the existing tenement adjoining the site, which limits the volume and proportion of the gallery. Special attention was payed to the impact of the gallery on the cityscape and the context of the area, as well as the efficiency of the programme in regards to economy of running costs.
